Saint Patrick’s Day the Austin Way

Happy Saint Patrick’s Day everyone! A historic day in Ireland which celebrates Ireland’s patron saint Patrick. Here in the United States though we use it as a fun holiday to get dressed in green and have some fun. Well for all my SXSW friends, I am going to tell you where to go for the best St. Patrick’s Day celebrations while in Austin and don’t forget to tip your bartenders.

BD Rileys

B.D. Riley’s (204 E. 6th St.)
Want to stay on the dirty sixth? Check out B.D. Riley’s for a pint of Guinness or Smithwick’s and a helping of fish and chips. They will be having live music and of course the games will be on if you are fan of European Football. Their line up for the rest of the day will be: Sunday In Leith, Skinny Lister (From England), Kristen Gibbs Band, Sean Orr’s Celtic Band.

Container Bar

Container Bar (90 Rainey St.)
What is better than partying in four-ton shipping containers? Nothing! This location is near where a lot of you will party during SXSW; it is an up-and-coming neighborhood with a boho vibe. Enjoy the patio and great Austin weather by sipping on the Texas State Beer (Lone Star) or even one of their interesting cocktails like ‘The Painkiller’ which has bourbon and yellow chartreuse or ‘The Holiday’ which features Pimm’s #1 and mint simple syrup.

Bull McCabes

Bull McCabe’s Irish Pub (714 Red River St.)
Located in the Red River District, known for it’s great music scene (Red Eyed Fly) and good food (Stubb’s BBQ) this is one place you don’t want to miss. Whether you want to have a stout or a cider and hey maybe even a coffee to perk you up, you will enjoy the party here.

Fado Irish Pub & Restaurant (214 W. 4th St.)
The ultimate party is at Fado’s; they started bright and early at 6 a.m. If you are not an early riser; did you have too much fun last night pre-partying or SXSW shenanigans. They closed down all of 4th street just for this day and well it will be the ultimate party. Don’t forget to try their great food too. They have fish and chips, but check out their topped chips; the lamb & green peppercorn are awesomely filling.

Stay safe, stay thirsty, and Sláinte!
